Fitness Fun with Kim Jong Un

by | September 16th, 2012 | 07:00 am

John Stewart has been known to credit George Bush for making him the success he is today.  Without the daily material George Bush provided the Daily Show, there would have been nothing to write jokes about.  Its beginning to feel the same around here with the material being provided by Kim Jong Un.  It seems every week, he’s up to something.  Be it riding rollercoasters, touring mini-golf facilities, or taking in a “Disney” show, we can always count on Kim for some great weekend material.

This weekend, he has provided us with a glimpse into the young leader’s fitness regimen.  The Telegraph reports that Kim recently toured a brand new three-story “physical exercise center” that was apparently built at the direction of Kim himself.  The 148,000 square foot gym is stocked to the nines with all the current exercise equipment including even a wave therapy pool.  I don’t know what that is, but it sounds high tech.

Kim was also accompanied by his wife Ri Sol-Ju who looks to be the more fitness minded half (third?) of the young couple.  The article states that Kim is concerned about the “promotion of people’s health and living standards.”  He views the new gym as an opportunity for Pyongyang citizens, cooped up in offices all day, to ”take exercise and receive medical treatment at the centre, they can devote themselves to revolutionary work in good health.”  That sounds like a plan.  Now if the gym fees are anything like they are in the Washington DC area, the country will be able to afford a single membership in two or three years assuming sustained GDP growth.  Now please enjoy a Photoshop rendering of the great leader’s presumed workout regimen below.
