Europe's lessons from two crises
Marco Buti, the head of cabinet of the European Commissioner for the economy and former director general for economic and financial affairs at the European Commission, presented his new book, The Man Inside: A European Journey through Two Crises. The book traces the underpinnings of the European Union's economic policy responses to the global financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic and draws lessons for the future of EU policymaking.
PIIE board member Caroline Atkinson and PIIE senior fellow Olivier Blanchard joined the discussion to provide insights on macroeconomic policy coordination and surveillance in practice, and lessons from the euro crisis. PIIE president Adam S. Posen moderated the Q&A with the audience.
